E3 for Year 12-13 school students (ages 17-18) is a 11-day wilderness expedition. Travelling as a small community through remote wilderness areas of Aotearoa New Zealand, each expedition is focused on developing the character of participants and strengthening their connections with God, others, and creation.

Our E3 Otago expedition is an 11-day wilderness journey. We start our adventure on the Main Divide of Kā Tiritiri-o-te-moana/the Southern Alps, at the head of the Makarora Valley on Tīoripātea/Haast Pass.
For the first six days, we will tramp through parts of Aspiring National Park. This stunning national park is part of the Te Wāhipounamu, a UNESCO World Heritage site which encompasses 2.6 million hectares.
We will tramp through dense forest, we will cross glacial-fed rivers and we will traverse alpine passes. Along the way, as well as enjoying the scenery of snow-capped mountains and alpine lakes, we’ll participate in some practical conservation work — potentially checking predator-traps and monitoring water-quality, plus surveying and recording the amazing array of birds that live in the area.
We will then give our legs a break for a couple of days, using paddles to guide our sea kayaks on the vast expanse of Lake Wānaka. Arriving at Minaret Station, we will then spend our final three days biking the western shores of Lake Wānaka — a remote area rarely accessed by the public — before finishing our
expedition in Wānaka.

E3 for Year 12-13 school students (ages 17-18) is a 11-day wilderness expedition. Travelling as a small community through remote wilderness areas of Aotearoa New Zealand, each expedition is focused on developing the character of participants and strengthening their connections with God, others, and creation.

Our E3 Bay of Islands expedition is an 11-day wilderness journey. Starting from a place of importance in our bicultural journey in Aotearoa New Zealand, we begin with a pōwhiri at Waitangi. Here, we give respect to the whenua/land and moana/ocean that we will travel on.
The next day, we have a day of learning sea kayaking skills on the water before paddling the short distance to Kororāreka/Russell where we will camp overnight, with the sound of kiwi and other native wildlife in the nearby bush.
Returning to our sea kayaks, we make our way to the outer islands. We will either: hike the amazing trail of Cape Brett walkway (including a rest day) or we will paddle to Urupukapuka Island, enjoying the amazing kayaking experience around the surrounding islands. Eventually, we make our way over to Rangihoua/Marsden Cross, which is the site where the Gospel was first shared in New Zealand on Christmas Day in 1814.
After an overnight stay here, we paddle our way back to Waitangi to complete our circumnavigation of the bay, intentionally ending back at the marae where we started.

Travelling as a small community through remote wilderness areas of Aotearoa New Zealand, each expedition is focused on developing the character of participants and strengthening their connections with God, others, and creation.

Our E3 Canterbury expedition is an 11-day wilderness journey. The expedition starts on Lewis Pass (altitude 864m), on the Main Divide of Kā Tiritiri-o-te-moana/the Southern Alps.
The first five days involve tramping through sections of the Lewis Pass Scenic Reserve and the St James Conservation Area in the Canterbury region. Our route passes through pastoral land, beech forest and sub-alpine regions before heading over Fowlers Pass (altitude 1296m), the highest point of our journey.
Putting aside our tramping packs, we spend a day biking 40km on Tophouse Road, alongside the upper section of the beautiful and isolated Waiau Toa/Clarence River. Our cycling leg ends at the historic Acheron Homestead.
Transferring to rafts, we spend our final five days rafting down the remaining section of the Waiau Toa before reaching our final destination – the East Coast!

Our E3 Young Adults 2027 expedition will be in the stunning Marlborough Sounds. Nestled at the top of New Zealand’s South Island, the Marlborough Sounds is a breathtaking network of sheltered waterways, forested hills, and secluded bays. Formed by ancient river valleys flooded by the sea, the region is renowned for its crystal-clear waters, abundant wildlife, and stunning coastal scenery. This E3YA will be anchored by 2-3 days of tramping and paddling. The scenery will only enhance the conversations around faith & its intersections with life.

Wellington Eco Church Gathering
This gathering's focus is the Season of Creation 2026 theme: Living Water inspired by Ezekiel 47:1–12. Together we'll reflect on water as a gift from God and our calling to care for the waterways and ecosystems that sustain our communities. Drawing on Te Ao Māori understanding of wai as a taonga, we'll explore our relationship with water not simply as a resource to be used, but as a living gift to be respected, cared for, and protected.
We're delighted to have two excellent presenters joining us:
Ben Fountain, a water engineer with Awa Environmental, will help us understand our relationship with local waterways, where Wellington's water comes from, the challenges facing our region, and the practical ways churches can help protect the health of local waterways.
Anna Baird will share the inspiring story of how her church, The Tribe in Masterton, has cared for the Awatotara Stream that runs alongside their church. What was once a neglected drain is becoming a place where native plants and wildlife are returning—a powerful example of faithful local action making a tangible difference. Anna will share what they've learned along the way and what other churches can take inspiration from.
There'll also be plenty of opportunity to ask questions, share what's happening in your own church, learn from others across the Wellington region, and enjoy coffee, tea and, of course, cake! If you're able, come a little earlier and go for a walk along Plimmerton Beach at 9:00am before the gathering begins. It's a wonderful opportunity to connect with others, and enjoy time in a beautiful part of God's creation together.

Eco Church Korero: Exploring the Season of Creation theme
Join us for a special Eco Church online kōrero that will offer ideas and inspiration to help your church engage meaningfully with the Season of Creation.

Location: Westmorland farm, meeting each morning at 600 Cashmere Road (Te Kuru Wetlands carpark)
Cost: $150 for the three-day programme
Join us for three unforgettable days of adventure, discovery, and fun in the beauty of Christchurch’s natural spaces. This hands-on Christian holiday programme invites children to explore the outdoors, connect with God’s creation, and discover how we can care for it together.
Most days will be spent outside on the farm and surrounding area, with games, storytelling, nature crafts, exploration, cooking, and practical conservation activities like native tree planting. We’ll also head out for a special day excursion to another beautiful location in Ōtautahi Christchurch.
Please note: This is a 3-day programme and registration covers all three days (Tuesday–Thursday), 9am–3pm each day.
◆ Children will need to be dropped off and picked up every day.
◆ Meeting and pick up point: Te Kuru Wetlands Carpark, 600 Cashmere Rd. We will be basing ourselves on the adjacent farm for the 3 days.
No outdoor experience needed—just a willingness to get muddy and have fun.

Christchurch: Eco Church Regenesis Planting Day
You’re warmly invited to this Eco Church gathering at the South West Baptist Church Regenesis restoration site.
Bring a group from your church and join others from Eco Churches across Christchurch and Waitaha Canterbury for a hands-on day of planting native trees and restoring biodiversity. It’s a chance to work side by side, connect, and be encouraged. Getting your hands in the soil is a simple, practical way to live out creation care together.

We will have parking wardens directing traffic.
Cashmere Road is busy, so please take extra care when arriving, parking, and crossing the road.
Follow all directions from wardens, and ensure children are supervised at all times.
Bikes are welcome and encouraged!
What to Bring
You are welcome to bring a picnic to eat together onsite before the planting day starts.
If you are able to, please bring your own tools (spade, gloves, etc.).
Boots with good grip or gumboots highly recommended. We will be planting on hill slopes.
Bring warm clothing appropriate for the conditions.

Eco Churches in the Hawke’s Bay are coming together for a Stream Clean-Up on Sunday 7 June, 1:30–3:00pm.
We’d love to have you join us, whether you come with a group from your church or just pop along yourself. It’s a great chance to get outside, connect, make a practical difference together for our local waterways.

For the past few months, the team at A Rocha Aotearoa NZ has been creating Eco Disciples, a new six-part short video series designed to help our churches to engage with eco theology and practical creation care in the context of Aotearoa.
We are almost at the finish line, but before we officially launch, we want to share it with you - the leaders within our Eco Church network.
Join us for a special ninety-minute online hui where we will host a "first watch" of the series. It’s a chance for you to help shape the final resource. We want to hear your honest feedback on what resonates, what could be sharpened, and what extra tools we can develop to make this as effective as possible for your local church context.

E3 Wilderness Expeditions - Young Adults
E3 is a multi-day wilderness expedition for young adults (aged 19-25) who want to explore the wilderness of Aotearoa New Zealand.
Boost your confidence, grow your leadership skills, develop your faith and be immersed in God’s creation. Explore how we fit into God’s story and reflect on what this might mean for the next season of life, as your high school years come to an end.
We will be travelling through some incredibly beautiful and remote areas of Aotearoa New Zealand. Along the way, we will be challenged physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually. Venturing into the wilderness gives us the opportunity to experience personal growth — allowing us to grow in our self-awareness, in our knowledge and in our love of others, of Creation, and the Creator God who made it all. As we journey, we will also explore eco-theology. Connecting with nature can be a profound way to connect with and experience our Creator God and appreciate the sacredness of the natural world.
What happens on an E3 expedition?
We journey together in a small group of 10-12 young people led by 2-3 highly experienced, qualified outdoor instructors and E3 staff. We will go tramping, mountain biking and kayaking (or rafting). We will also sleep in tents (or under the stars, if you want!), learn about nature and conservation, experience the weather in all its changeable glory, cook together, challenge ourselves physically and mentally, watch breathtaking sunrises and sunsets, make campfires, have daily discussions and Bible engagement, develop our faith, spend time with a group of amazing humans, and enjoy the untamed beauty of God’s Creation.
Mackenzie and Waitaki Districts - within the Canterbury region

Conservation Kōrero with Dr Don Jellyman
Join us for our Conservation Kōrero! This kōrero will provide inspiration to anyone passionate about conservation and caring for creation, including our Eco Church community and A Rocha local groups working in the biodiversity and conservation space. Especially relevant to local group leaders and members, conservation leaders and volunteers, and church members wanting to get involved in biodiversity work and conservation projects in their local places.
Join us for a rich conversation with freshwater ecologist Dr Don Jellyman as he reflects on the interplay of faith and work across his career in science and conservation. Don shares how his faith has shaped the way he approaches caring for Aotearoa’s taonga species, including memorable stories from decades of research with longfin tuna (eels). He also highlights some of the standout moments from his conservation journey, and gives us a glimpse into the work of his Eco Church community.

We’re delighted to have input from long-time A Rocha legend Rev Dr Selwyn Yeoman, and Rev Robin Humphreys who is minister at Beckenham Methodist Church and former National Director for Children and Families Ministry for the Presbyterian Church. The programme explores the unique environmental challenges and opportunities of our world and the biblical imperative to care for creation in the unique context of Aotearoa. The courses are a mixture of workshops, hands-on activities, outdoor adventures and building relationships with likeminded people.
This course is for young adults who are interested in creation care and anyone involved in leading youth ministry who want to be equipped to support young people in their passion to care for creation.

SUSTAIN Camp 2025
We’re on this earth for good reason! Join us on Sustain to enjoy a week of delighting in creation - from the mountains to the sea. We’ll explore the local area and hear about how to contribute sustainably to the world around us, as well as how to sustain our relationship with God. Imagine a day in the bush, a day in the ocean, and a day on a picturesque farm… how could you go wrong?
You’ll learn how to build and set traps up Mount Karioi, adventure across different waters to see the impact of plastic on our shores, learn where your food comes from and more; all the while making the most of the beauty of Raglan - we may even get out for a few surfs!

A growing awareness of the significant ecological challenges the world faces is being accompanied by rising rates of mental illness, particularly amongst young people. For many, thinking about the future fills them with anxiety and despair. What are the conditions that have given rise to this? How might ancient practices from within the Christian tradition help us to live with hope in the face of ecological uncertainties?
