Albany Presbyterian Church Fernhill Escarpment nature walk
Members of Albany Presbyterian Church recently explored the Fernhill Escarpment in Albany, guided by knowledgeable botanists who helped them discover the richness of Aotearoa’s native bush—from towering podocarps like rimu and kahikatea to tiny ground-cover plants often overlooked. The walk deepened participants’ appreciation of the natural world and reminded them that learning to love and understand creation is the first step toward caring for it.
Praxis: Turning toward creation - the ARO journey
At Praxis, caring for creation is becoming part of the organisation’s DNA. Through their ARO framework — Assess, Reduce, Offset — this national youth work NGO is learning what it means to turn toward creation as followers of Jesus, integrating care for the earth into everyday formation and practice. At our recent Eco Church Partners Kōrero, Praxis director Murray Shearer shared how this journey is shaping youth work, theology, and culture — helping young people reconnect with creation, each other, and the Creator.
Kahikatea Kids - A new creation care programme for children
It was super exciting to pilot a brand-new day camp during the July school holidays in Ōtautahi Christchurch! Designed for children aged 8–12, this hands-on, nature-based programme invited our young explorers to connect deeply with God’s creation and discover what it means to care for it. With plenty of time for fun, friendship, and meaningful discovery, the programme offered a rich way for children to grow in faith and care for the environment.
Eco Church gathering in the Hawkes Bay
The Hawkes Bay Eco church gathering on Saturday 22nd February showed that there’s a whole lot of energy for the Creation Care Kaupapa in the Hawkes Bay! 35 people from 8 different churches gathered to hear from several speakers about conservation and the what/why/how of being an eco church, as well as share with each other the joys and challenges they’re experiencing as they take steps on their eco church journey.
A Rocha at Festival One
I had the incredible privilege of being part of Festival One, which is a unique festival that celebrates faith, community, creativity and creation. Over the weekend, I had the opportunity to lead two sessions titled “Eco Church – Why We Must.” Alongside these talks, I also led three reflective nature walks, inviting participants to step into creation with fresh eyes. We spent time in the bush, pausing to reflect on Romans 1:15 and considering how creation can reveal the heart of our Creator.
