Season of Creation at Alexandra Corps
Contributed by Captain Char Whybrow, Corps Officer Alexandra Salvation Army.
Across September and into October, the Alexandra Corps focused on Season of Creation like many other churches across the motu. We affirmed our commitment to being an Eco Church and explored the theme of Peace with Creation.
Our Kids Church took on a new project to help reduce food scraps heading to the bin by setting up a worm farm. The worm farm was a gently used one, generously donated to us and worms sourced from a Cromwell worm farm. Now food scraps are kept in a dedicated bin, and the kids check on the worms and feed them each week.
Season of Creation culminated in our annual planting day at Alexandra Community Gardens aka Eden Gardens, run by The Salvation Army. Over 50 people from the community turned up to plant this year's crops and enjoy a sausage sizzle. On Sunday, we joined with fellow Eco Church, Alexandra, Clyde, Lauder Union Parish for ‘Church in the Gardens’. We had a lovely time of worship outside, with a tactile prayer activity, scavenger hunt for the kids and finished off with planting an almond tree together (and of course morning tea!)
