Refillery at Two Todman

You might be familiar with the work of Brooklyn Anglicans and our Two Todman community space. For the past three years, we’ve been reviving the Anglican presence in our neighbourhood through our central spot which includes a chapel, co-working office, community space, and thrift shop.

Our thrift shop is a key part of this project, offering a place to connect, inspire creativity, and support our local neighbourhood. Not only in rehoming donated goods, but also supporting local artisans by on-selling their goods in our store. Income from this project is donated to local community groups twice a year through an application process, with over $15,000 given away to our neighbourhood in the last three years.

Last Thursday, we expanded our work with the launch of a refillery - a spot where people can come to get top-ups of common household consumables without creating more waste from plastic packaging. The concept came from consultation with our local community on what was missing from the main street and would add value to our neighbourhood.

For Brooklyn Anglicans, there are a few questions we’ve tried to satisfy each time we start a new project. Firstly, will this engage us more actively with our neighbours? Secondly, can this achieve social good for our community? And thirdly, can we use this opportunity to create a revenue stream which can enable more community development? The refillery is a concept that hits all three.

While there are other refill stations around the city, they do need to be conveniently located in each community for them to be used well. Two Todman is well situated for Brooklyn and the surrounding suburbs. Our refillery is stocked with Eco Store products, a well-known and trusted brand and we have a selection of home cleaning products and body care goods to begin with, such as laundry and dish detergents, household cleaning and shampoo, body wash etc.

Two Todman has been a continual process of prayer, discernment, and conversation with our community to imagine creative ways we can build connectedness and hope in our neighbourhood.
